When Democrats do choose to answer questions about why they have no plan of their own, their new talking point is that, unlike the governor, they don’t have the time or resources to develop a full proposal:
Kelliher notes that the governor had all of the state’s commissioners and finance experts working on the budget for months. The Legislature does not have those resources.
“He’s had 7½ months. It’s unrealistic to expect us to respond in just a few days,” she said. DFL legislators keep hearing that dreaded four-letter word: When? - MinnPost.com
While Democrats act surprised by the budget deficit, here is a timeline to consider:

During the campaign, Phil Sterner pledged to work with members of both parties to help the government live within it's means. Instead, Phil Sterner just took a vote to override the Governor's veto so that he can raise your taxes by $992 million!
Our government needs to learn to live within it's means, just like every family within Phil Sterner's district. No family can afford to spend more than it makes, and tough decisions need to be made to cut spending. Most of us simply don't have the liberty to simply demand our employer gives us more money, especially in this recession.
The Governor has repeatedly indicated his willingness to work with the legislature. In fact he's made a number of concessions to the legislature, many of them using ideas offered by Democrats. Instead of accepting those concessions, Phil Sterner and the rest of the DFL rejected them and insisted upon raising taxes.
Our taxes our high enough, and jobs are already threatening to move to lower taxed environments. It's no coincidence that Sioux Falls, SD and it's famously low taxes, is one of the fastest grows cities in the region. And Wisconsin isn't far away either. The DFL, with Phil Sterner's help, are simply raising taxes that kill jobs for Minnesota.
Phil, and the rest of the DFL, need to learn to control their spending, just like average Minnesotans do. |

On Sunday, November 6th, the Senate District 37 Republicans got together for a night of fun and fellowship. It was a chance to renew old friendships and make new ones. Equally exciting is the countdown of only 366 days until Obama is voted out of office!
In that spirit, we conducted a straw poll to get an idea of who our members are supporting for the Republican nominee. Each attendee got at least one vote. In addition, you could "buy" additional votes by making a donation to the BPOU.
If you don't count the additional votes, the results were as follows:
- Herman Cain (5)
- Newt Gingrich (5)
- Michelle Bachmann (3)
- Ron Paul (3)
- Mitt Romney (2)
- Rick Perry (1)
- Paul Ryan (1 write-in)
- Rick Santorum (1)
- Jon Huntsman (0)
However, the straw poll results that including additional votes gives a better idea of the level of enthusiasm supporters have for their candidates. Those results are as follows:
- Rick Santorum (91)
- Herman Cain (77)
- Newt Gingrich (68)
- Rick Perry (41)
- Michelle Bachmann (39)
- Ron Paul (28)
- Paul Ryan (21 write-ins)
- Mitt Romney (11)
- Jon Huntsman (0)
Overall it was a fun night, and we look forward to working to elect Republicans in 2012. |

They met to modify the Party's platform for the upcoming election and to elect delegates to represent them the SD37 BPOU Convention. They also came to select their preference for the Republican Party's candidate for Governor. The results were as follows:
